1st - 4th September No building, preparing to go away
5th - 19th September No building, working in the UK and USA. Unfortunately I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up driving 3900km across the USA in an effort to get to Los Angeles airport and home to New Zealand. Sadness on the homefront as well, Patch, the little kitten that featured helping me sew a couple of months ago, died while I was away.
20th - 21st September No building, spending some time close to my family.
22nd September Tidied up the cabling aft of the firewall in preparation for bundling. I still need to work out where to place the circuitry associated with the gear/flap sensor for the angle of attack indicator and terminate the audio cables but apart from that the firewall wiring is complete.
23rd September Following 13 circuits in the Europa at the local field I came back and applied a final coat of primer to all of my control surfaces and doors. I used a thinned coat with the primary goal od covering the odd little area that had been sanded back too much.
24th September Okay, so how come I have two pilot push to talk wires
shown on my connector diagrams huh? I spent this evening transferring the
connector details from my notebook to my computer based diagrams. It looks like
I might have made a 'small' notational error in on one of the cables which will,
no doubt, take several hours to resolve at the weekend. I also fitted the
overhead power supply for the ANR headsets. This is fitted to a connector block
and wrapped in insulating tape. The use of the connector block allows me to
replace the entire power supply easily if I need to. The ANR power supply
consists of a low voltage dropout 12 volt regulator feeding into a 12 volt DC to
DC converter which then feeds a low voltage dropout 9 volt regulator. This way I
get a very smoothly regulated and isolated supply to power the ANR circuit in
the headsets.
25th September Snuck off work early and sanded back the primer on the port stabilator.
26th September Continued with the diagramming.
27th September No building, SAANZ meeting.
28th September No building.
29th - 30th September Sand, fly, sand, fly. A glorious Auckland spring
weekend so I alternated between flying in ZK-UBD and sanding back the control
surfaces ready for spray painting. As I wanted to ensure that the surfaces were
perfect I hand sanded everything which kept me well occupied for some 13 hours
over the weekend. Washing the dust off and viewing them wet showed just how good
they were going to look once sprayed and polished. The flying was good
with 20 landings performed over the weekend.
