March 2000, Fuselage Priming

March 1st - 2nd No building,

March 3rd Primer sanding

March 4th John Caukwell came round and spotted some areas that needed a bit more filling so smooth the lines so I filled those areas. Later that night I sanded back some of the newly filled areas.

March 5th - 8th No building, working in Australia

March 9th Sanding.

March 10th No building.

We apologise for the lack of picture. Normal photo insertion will resume one I get a replacement digital camera. We were burgled last night and among the items stolen was my Olympus digital camera. Swines!

March 11th No building, wedding to attend.

March 12th Sanded back the filler on the ducting areas inside the aircraft and at three hour intervals applied coats of primer. I must say that the new UV Smooth Prime has much denser coverage than the original version and leaves a smoother finish over all - which results in less sanding!

March 13th Sanded the fin area of the primer smooth. Under artificial light the only way of checking that the area is smooth is with my finger tips. There will probably be some more sanding to do here once I can see the plane in natural light again.

March 14th More sanding.

March 15th A ditto day.

March 16th No building, working in Wellington

March 17th - 19th No building, North Island rowing championships.

March 20th - 23rd The S word.

March 24th No building - but I did get a peer review by Tim Ward and Gavin Lee. Gavin was last seen with his head buried deep in the insides of my aircraft!

March 25th Finished off sanding the primer (at last!!).

March 26th Applied two more coats of primer and then, in only one hour of sanding, got 90% of the fuselage side to a super fine finish.

From experience gained through sanding this side of the fuselage, my procedure for all future priming is as follows..

March 27th - 30th No building, working in Wellington.
